Rhonda Mallard (Programmer of the Quarter)

The new year has started and some people desire to begin a new chapter of their lives while others just continue as is. Others desire to start anew but realize that they need a helping hand to get out of the old deep rut.

I’m one of those that needed a hand up so that I could start a new chapter in my life. I came to Las Cruces Gospel Rescue Mission (LCGRM) on 06/26/2017. I was scared because I didn’t know what to expect but as the days have gone by I have seen some people go and some people stay. Those who stay have become the backbone or sustaining force of the residents, and I have become part of it. I started out as a guest, then a pre-programmer and then a programmer. At the present time I am the housekeeping manager.

All programmers attend chapel services at least three nights a week where we are able to hear a different speaker each night. There are morning Bible studies three days a week and Celebrate Recovery on Friday morning. Being here has given me a chance to give back to the community that has helped me start a new chapter of my life. Every time someone is given a blanket or a homeless person comes in to take a shower, it puts a smile on my face and in my heart. The donors also make up a big part of the body of LCGRM. They donate clothing, hygiene items, diapers, bedding items, towels and the money that allows the ministry to do all the things they do.

Everyone has an angel on their shoulder and the hand of our Lord, Jesus Christ, to guide them. I want to thank everyone at the mission and I will never forget them when it is my turn to move on to start a new chapter in my life. The staff and volunteers aren’t just co-workers, I consider them my family and extended family. I love every single one of them.

Thank you, Rhonda Mallard
